Indianapolis, IN - As numerous drivers endured an anxious MBNA Bump Day on Sunday, tenth-place qualifier Eddie Cheever Jr. logged 42 productive practice laps in his #51 Excite@Home Indy Race Car. With no track activity scheduled for the next three days, Cheever will return to the cockpit of his Infiniti-powered Dallara on Carburetion Day, Thursday, May 25.
Cheever (on his day): "It was a very good day. We worked a lot on full tanks. Nissan got two Infiniti-powered cars in the Indianapolis 500, and both of them are strong. Everything has been very promising so far, and now we have to go out and win the 500."
(On Billy Boat's last minute qualifying effort): "That's a driver's worst nightmare - having to jump in a car that you've never driven before knowing that it's all up to you. Billy has tremendous courage and ability to be able to do that. I've done it before, but not that close."
