Tony Renna completes Indianapolis 500 rookie orientation program.

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana (April 21, 2003)-- Tony Renna, driver of the No. 32 Cure Autism Now/HomeMed Pharmacy Indianapolis 500 entry, completed his Rookie Orientation Program today at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Renna's completion of the program allows him the opportunity to qualify for the 87th Indianapolis 500. Renna, who completed 86 laps during the four-phase program, was pleased with today's results. "It feels great to get the rookie part done but it is only the first step of a long month ahead of us," said Renna. "Obviously, just driving on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway was a phenomenal experience and very rewarding but we still have a lot of work to do and much bigger fish to fry."

The Rookie Orientation Program requires drivers to complete a series of four speed phases and also to demonstrate consistent car control throughout the test in order to compete at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Drivers must complete at least 10 consecutive laps at 200-205 mph, 205-210, 210-215 mph and above 215 mph. Although speed is not the goal of today's testing, Renna posted a fast lap of 221.098 mph/ 40.7060 seconds. Today's testing on the 2.5-mile oval was under cloudy skies and temperatures that didn't get above the low 60's.

Renna will return to the track tomorrow for additional private testing at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway with the Kelley Racing team and will be joined by teammate Scott Sharp, driver of the No. 8 Delphi entry. On Wednesday, Al Unser Jr., driver of the No. 31 Corteco entry, will take over testing from Sharp and Renna.

The testing at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is in preparation for the 87th Indianapolis 500 that will be held on Sunday, May 25. The race will be broadcast on ABC and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Radio Network.
