INDIANAPOLIS, Tuesday, April 2, 2002 - Seven teams, led by defending Indy Racing League champion Panther Racing, filed a total of eight entries April 1-2 for the 86th Indianapolis 500.

Filing single entries were Bradley Motorsports, Cahill Racing, Convergent Racing, Curb/Agajanian/Boat Indy Racing, Panther Racing and PDM Racing. Nunn Racing filed two entries.

Entry invitations for the 86th Indianapolis 500 must be postmarked by April 3. All drivers will compete for one of the 33 starting spots in the world's most prestigious auto race May 26 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

2001 Indy Racing League champion Sam Hornish Jr. will drive the No. 4 Pennzoil Panther Dallara Dallara/Chevrolet/Firestone for Panther Racing, with an identical backup entered. Current IRL points leader Hornish, from Defiance, Ohio, will attempt to make his third career Indianapolis 500 start. His best finish is 14th in 2001.

Simon Morley is the chief mechanic of the Panther entry, with Kevin "Rocket" Blanch as the team manager.

1998 Indianapolis 500 pole winner Billy Boat will drive the No. 98 CURB Records Dallara/Chevrolet/Firestone for Curb/Agajanian/Boat Indy Racing Dallara/Chevrolet/Firestone, with an identical backup entered. Boat, from Phoenix, will attempt to make his sixth Indy start. His previous best was third in 1999.

Terry Wilbert is the chief mechanic, and Darrell Soppe is the team manager.

1999 Indianapolis 500 Bank One Rookie of the Year Robby McGehee, from St. Louis, will drive the No. 10 Cahill Racing Dallara/Chevrolet/Firestone, with an identical backup entered. McGehee's best finish in three prior starts is fifth in 1999.

Kevin Hertle is chief mechanic, and team owner Larry Cahill also serves as team manager.

Shigeaki Hattori will drive the No. 12 EPSON Bradley Motorsports Dallara/Infiniti/Firestone for Bradley Motorsports, with an identical backup entered. Japanese native Hattori, who lives in Hermosa Beach, Calif., will attempt to make his first Indy 500 start, as he failed to qualify last year.

1996 IRL co-champion Buzz Calkins, who recently retired as a driver, will participate as a car owner in the Indianapolis 500 for the first time with the Bradley entry. Andy Green is the chief mechanic, and Don Williams is the team manager.

2001 Indy Racing League Rookie of the Year Felipe Giaffone will drive the No. 21 Hollywood Mo Nunn Racing G Force/Chevrolet/Firestone, with an identical backup entered. Giaffone, from Sao Paulo, Brazil, will attempt to make his second Indy start. He finished 10th as a rookie last year. Tom Vasi is the chief mechanic of Giaffone's entry.

Indianapolis 500 rookie Tony Kanaan, from Sao Paulo, Brazil, will drive the No. 17 Hollywood Mo Nunn Racing G Force/Chevrolet/Firestone for Nunn Racing.

Don Lambert is the chief mechanic of Kanaan's entry. Peter Parrott is the team manager for Nunn Racing, which fields Giaffone full time in the Indy Racing League and Kanaan full time in CART.

Japanese rookie Hideki Noda will drive the No. 20 Convergent Racing G Force/Chevrolet/Firestone, with no backup car entered. Noda first must complete the Rookie Orientation Program on April 11-13 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway before participating in the Indianapolis 500 activities during May.

Danny Hunter is the chief mechanic, and Tom O'Brien is the team manager.

PDM entered the No. 18 Dallara/Chevrolet/Firestone, with the driver and car name to be announced later. No backup was entered. Paul Murphy is the chief mechanic, and Larry Arnold is the team manager.
