Sharp Qualifies on Row Three for Indy 500
Scott Sharp will make his 12th career start at Indianapolis Motor Speedway from the middle of the Third Row after WorldPoints Visa Card Pole Qualifying this afternoon for the 90th running of the Indianapolis 500. Sharp, whose focus has been on race day setup since the beginning of track activities, entered Pole Day with the seventh fastest speed of the month (225.560 mph). He set a four lap qualifying average of 225.321 mph to claim the eighth position on the grid.
Sharp holds three top-10 results at the Speedway, claiming his best finish of seventh last year. The team will resume practice activities tomorrow.
Scott Sharp - #8 Delphi Dallara /Honda/Firestone:
"Overall, we're pleased. As a team, we worked really hard any time we have had the chance the last week and a half to develop the best possible race car we could for the 28th . With our time and our laps devoted to that, certainly we chose that today wasn't the day we were going to shine. The 28th is the day we really want to shine. We knew we probably weren't going to be a Front Row candidate, and hoped that we would be somewhere in the second or third row. That's where we ended up surrounded by good company and, hopefully, we'll have a heck of a race car and be able to run hard and run at the front all day long."

Tom Anderson, Team Owner:
"We were probably a little too conservative in our approach today. Conditions were a little bit better than what we had estimated and we found a little bit more grip in the morning practice. The changes that we made were really good changes for race day, but they slowed the car down a little bit more than we anticipated for qualifying. The car wasn't quite as free as Scott needed. I'm very happy with our race setup during the rain-shortened practice sessions we have had this month. I believe that we are definitely a contender for the race next weekend."
