INDIANAPOLIS -- Indy Racing League race winner Jaques Lazier will spot for Robby Gordon in Sunday's 88th Indianapolis 500 and be available to drive Gordon's Meijer/Coca-Cola Dallara-Chevrolet should Gordon need to leave before the end of the 500 to fulfill his commitment to drive the Cingular Wireless Chevy for Richard Childress Racing in Sunday evening's Coca-Cola 600 NASCAR event at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte.

"The one thing I don't control is the weather," said Gordon, who will start his 10th Indy 500 Sunday, "so I have Jaques Lazier here. We've talked about it with Meijer and Coca-Cola and all our others sponsors. Jaques is a friend of mine and obviously has a lot of experience in these cars. He has a seat for a Dallara. The plan is he will spot for me (both in Carb Day and race day) and be available to drive just in case."

Lazier, 33, who won the IRL race at Chicagoland in 2001, has been competing in the League since 1999 and has 36 career starts.

"This is the result of a long friendship with Robby and I'm very grateful he's asked me to be available," said Lazier. "I'm happy to spot for Robby. If he needs me to drive the Meijer car, I'll be ready. I'm excited and honored that Robby asked me."
