Meira, Matsuura Finish First Complete Day of Practice at Indianapolis
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- (May 8, 2007) - Panther Racing drivers Vitor Meira and Kosuke Matsuura completed their first full day of practice Tuesday in preparation for the 91st Running of the Indianapolis 500.
Meira completed the second-most laps of any driver on the course Tuesday, as his team wants to get as much data as possible before Pole Day qualifications on Saturday when the top eleven spots are available for the Indy 500.
The No. 55 Panasonic Panther team encountered a few minor problems during the day, but were able to get Kosuke some valuable track time at the end of the day. Matsuura, the 2004 Indy 500 Rookie of the Year, is preparing to make his first start at Indianapolis for Super Aguri Panther Racing.
Below are practices times and quotes from Panther's drivers:
"I felt like it was a good day. We ran some of the most laps of anybody and we're really pleased with what we accomplished. The Delphi Panther team learned a lot of new stuff that we didn't find last year. So, we're way ahead of where we were a year ago. It's still a work in progress, but this is a great start."
"I thought today would be more productive and simply a better day but we had some problems from the start. It seems like we had some engine throttle problem and all sorts of small problems so I couldn't run much. I was able to go out for last five minutes but we couldn't really solve the issue. We have time to solve all those problems so I am not worried but I'm bit disappointed that I couldn't run much today. Looking forward to a better day tomorrow."
