Meira Shakes Down No. 33 Camping World Dallara; Andretti Set to Debut Tomorrow
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- (May 16, 2007) - After new Panther Racing driver John Andretti was announced this morning, the new pilot watched as IndyCar Series veteran Vitor Meira perfected the setup on the team's new No. 33 Camping World Panther Honda Dallara at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Meira was extremely happy with the handling of the car at the conclusion of Wednesday practice, which means Andretti is set to debut when practice opens tomorrow.
Below are practices times and quotes from Panther's drivers:
"I just have to thank Panther Racing and Camping World for this opportunity. I've got a great team behind me. It's great that Vitor helped us setup the car today. He doesn't have to do that and it's a great, JB (team co-owner John Barnes) suggested that and it's really help accelerate everything. I didn't get out on the track today but I will tomorrow. I can't put this (returning to the Indy 500) into words. I have high expectations for the race. But I just want to run smooth and solid and be there at the end. If we're fighting for the win, then that's what I'll do."
Vitor Meira - #4 Delphi Panther Racing (driving in No. 33 Camping World Panther Dallara)
"I'm really happy. The rear of my car is stuck, and that wasn't something we were feeling last week. It was fun to work with John (Andretti) today and I feel like he's got himself a very good racecar. I'm looking forward to helping with the Camping World effort and also to getting back into the Delphi No. 4 car so we can run some together."
Kosuke Matsuura - #55 Panasonic Panther Racing
"It was the first day we ran full tank and practiced the race setup. We were lacking the mechanical grip during past practice days so we tried many setup changes today. I think we were able to find the right directions, and what we need, so we will keep practicing as much as possible and prepare ourselves for the race."
