Second Attempt at Indianapolis Pole Day Washed Out
Meira Turns Practice Laps, Doesn't Get to Make Qualification Run

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Panther Racing and driver Vitor Meira turned practice laps at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday, but a rain storm cancelled Pole Day qualifications for the second consecutive day.

Qualifications have been rescheduled for next Saturday, May 20th.

Before the rain hit, Meira turned his fastest practice lap of the month at 224.761 mph, 40.0426 seconds. Vitor is looking to make his fourth start in the Indianapolis 500, and will qualify second in the order, just behind former Panther driver Townsend Bell. Dan Wheldon and Sam Hornish Jr., both former Panther drivers, finished 1-2 on the speed chart for the day.

Vitor has qualified seventh at Indy in each of the last two seasons, he led his first laps (3) at the 2.5-mile oval in 2005.

Last season, Panther cars qualified in ninth (Buddy Lazier), tenth (Tomas Enge) and 11th (Tomas Scheckter). Lazier finished fifth, the team's best career result in the Indianapolis 500.

Vitor Meira Quote:

"It was short and sweet today. We got a lot done on the little time we had on the track. We are getting more and more confident and we are quicker every time that we get on the track, and that's how it's going to be all year long, not just in Indianapolis. I think we would have been Top Ten with no problems today and I think we will be whenever we do qualify."
