Andretti Quickest Among Non-Qualifiers; Meira and Matsuura Happy with Progress
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- (May 18, 2007) - In only his second day behind the wheel of the No. 33 Camping World Panther Honda, John Andretti was quickly up to speed at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The NASCAR veteran, who is making his return to the Speedway after a 10-plus year layoff, finished ninth on the final speed chart and is prepared for qualifications.
Both Vitor Meira and Kosuke Matsuura spent a good part of the day perfected their cars' race setup. With only two more practice days remaining before the final preparations of Carb Day, both drivers are happy with the setup on their cars. Vitor finished the day 16th on the final chart in the Delphi car and Kosuke drove the Panasonic Honda for a quick lap of 220.968 mph, the 19th-best time of the day.
John Andretti #33 Camping World Panther Racing
"Today was awesome. The Camping World Honda has been amazing. I actually wish we could line it up and run today because I'm ready to start. I really feel comfortable in the car. There are still a few little things that I need to get used to but everybody is helping out. Tomorrow is a big step and once we get in the show we can focus more on our race setup. I'll be leaning on Vitor to help us with the race setup, and I have so much confidence in his ability."
Vitor Meira #4 Delphi Panther Racing
"We made some good gains today. I'm very happy with the Delphi car and it's setup. The Panther team might not have been at the top of the speed charts this month, but we're going to be a factor in the race. My crew did a great job last year when we came back from two laps down to finish Top Ten, but this year we're going to be really strong from the start."
Kosuke Matsuura #55 Panasonic Panther Racing
"Today was a very productive day for us. We were able to test race setups and were able to try some changes that we wanted to do, so I am very satisfied with today. We still have few chances to practice before the race so we will keep practicing and hopefully find the best setup for the race day."
