Panther Pack Puts Together Best Practice Session of May

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Vitor Meira and the Panther Pack posted their fastest speed of the month during Friday practice at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Panther, which has slowly been climbing up the speed charts, solidified itself as a contender for the top two rows of tomorrow's Pole Day qualifications.

Meira's top lap of 225.336 mph, 39.9402 seconds put him eighth on the final speed chart for the day.

Because both days of qualifications were rained out last weekend, all 33 positions will be filled on Saturday, with Sunday following the traditional "Bump Day" procedure. Sunday will be the last day of practice at IMS until Carb Day next Friday, which will mark the last warm-up in preparation for the 90th Indianapolis 500.

Meira Quote

"We are really confident heading into Pole Day tomorrow. Everybody at Panther is shooting for the first two rows, especially since we have more left in the car. I like that we've got an early run, but we need to make sure our first attempt is a good one, because there are so many cars to qualify I don't think we're going to get a lot of attempts. We've been building up to this speed all month and today was the day we put everything up together."
