Vasser posts his fastest lap of the month

SPEEDWAY, IN . . . Despite steady rain showers that limited practice at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Miller Lite driver Jimmy Vasser posted his fastest lap of the month with a speed of 224.988 mph. Vasser's lap put him tenth overall on the rain shortened second day of practice for the 86th Indianapolis 500. On the day Vasser ran 26 laps [65 miles] for Rahal/Letterman Racing.

The long wait paid off for Team Rahal and 27 other competitors as the track opened for practice at 4:43 PM local time allowing the teams 77 minutes of practice time. With Pole Day just five days away on Saturday, 28 cars took advantage of the short practice time on the famed 2.5-mile track.

Practice resumes tomorrow morning at Noon EDT for the May 26th Indy 500.

"We ran the backup car again today and got in 25 laps. We had few problems Sunday and we resolved them today. The car felt good and we quit a little early since we learned what we wanted to with the chassis changes. We are keeping our eye on the ball. Everybody tends to get excited here at Indy. There are a lot of tows (drafts) out there and those guys won't have that in qualifying. The big speeds always come right after a yellow flag and all of the cars go out together. They can get a tow very easily. We just have to concentrate on our program and work hard to get the car ready. This is a veteran team and they are very business-like. I think they understand how Indy works. It's a long month."
