Indianapolis, Ind. (May 18, 2002) - Walker Racing's Oriol Servia jumped in the backup car at Mi-Jack/Conquest Racing to set the fastest lap for Infiniti power in today's practice session for the 86th Indianapolis 500. After only 19 laps, Servia ranked fifth fastest and recorded his fastest speed of the month at 226.359 mph.
The two teams are currently discussing options to have Servia attempt to qualify the Mi-Jack/Conquest Racing Dallara-Infiniti in Sunday's Bump Day Qualifications.
"We did it just because we have been working on our car and we were stuck at 224 (mph), with very low downforce, so in the end we were a little frustrated," Servia said. "We have a very good relationship with Eric Bachelart (the owner of the Mi-Jack/Conquest Racing entry) so we took his car out and had a lot quicker laps then what we have done in four days. Obviously we want to look at the differences, and probably the biggest is the engine power."
Shigeaki Hattori is currently the only Infiniti entry on the qualifying lineup for Bump Day. He was eighth fastest of the day in the EPSON/NISMO Bradley Motorsports Infiniti at 225.448 mph.
Qualified Infiniti drivers Robbie Buhl, Sarah Fisher, Laurent Redon, Eddie Cheever Jr., Max Papis and Tomas Scheckter also went on track today to work on race setups for the Indianapolis 500.
Practice resumes Sunday, May 19 from 10 to 11:15 a.m. (EST) and Bump Day qualifications take place from 12 to 6 p.m. (EST). The 86th running of the Indianapolis 500 starts at 11 a.m. (EST) Sunday, May 26. Live timing and scoring of all on-track activity can be found on www.indyracing.com.
