Brack & Gordon head Indy's "Carb Day" final practice

Honda-powered drivers Kenny Brack and Robby Gordon topped the timesheets in "Carb Day" practice at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the final practice session prior to the start of Sunday's 500-mile race.

Brack, who will start his Rahal-Letterman Racing entry from the outside of the second row, turned a best lap effort of 228.707 miles per hour on just his sixth lap of practice. Gordon, substituting for the injured Dario Franchitti for Andretti Green Racing, was just over a tenth of a second slower as teams and drivers made their final race preparations.

Access Motorsports co-owner/driver Greg Ray also produced a strong showing, running fourth overall to give Honda-powered drivers three of the top four speeds. Of all nine Honda drivers in the 33-car starting field, only Dan Wheldon encountered mechanical problems, limiting the Andretti Green rookie to just five laps on the day. The fastest rookie in the field, Wheldon will line up in the middle of the second row after qualifying fifth fastest.

Sunday's 200-lap race starts at noon EDT, with live pre-race television coverage beginning on ABC starting at 11 a.m. EDT.

Kenny Brack (#15 Rahal-Letterman Racing Honda) quickest driver today: "It's been a fantastic day for us. It's race preparation, so we've done a lot of stuff in the few laps that we've run, and the car seems to run fine. So let's hope it stays the same until Sunday. From what I've seen so far, there are a lot of cars that are very similar in speed, and it's going to be a tough race to win."
