Archipelago Exchange's Franchitti Finishes up Preparations For Sunday's Indianapolis 500
SPEEDWAY, Ind. (May 27, 2004) - Archipelago Exchange (ArcaEx) driver Dario Franchitti finished his preparations for the 88th running of the Indianapolis 500 today during the traditional "Carburetion Day" practice session at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Franchitti, who put the #27 ArcaEx Dallara/Honda/Firestone on the outside of the front row during "Pole Day" qualifications on May 15, ran a total of 22 laps Thursday during the final practice session for the 33-car field prior to Sunday's 200-lap event.
Teammates Kosuke Matsuura and Adrian Fernandez led Thursday's two-hour session with speeds of 219.226 and 218.066 miles per hour, respectively. Scott Dixon was third at 217.391 miles per hour and was followed by Vitor Meira at 217.172. Meira's teammate Roger Yasukawa rounded out the top-five with a speed of 217.119 miles per hour.
The Indianapolis 500 is slated to begin at 12 p.m. (EDT) Sunday and will be televised live on ABC Sports.
Dario Franchitti, #27 ArcaEx Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
"I may have to wait until Sunday night to tell you just how good the ArcaEx car is. We had a couple of dramas today and a couple of things to sort out. But, I'm glad we had today's session to do that. We'll just have to wait and see what happens Sunday."
Kyle Moyer, General Manager, Andretti Green Racing:
"I would say that the ArcaEx team is satisfied with where we're at right now. We've had a pretty good month, but today was not our best day. The car is pretty close, but I think it will be a car that we have to work on a little bit during the race to make it a winning race car. But, it's a long race and it's a long time until Sunday, so maybe it will work out just right."
