INDY 500 DRIVERS HEAD DOWNTOWN MAY 1 Free Concert, Autograph Session Planned on Monument Circle
INDIANAPOLIS, April 28, 1997 -- Indianapolis 500 drivers will be on Monument Circle to meet the Indianapolis community on Thursday, May 1 at the second annual Indy Racing League Race Rock 'N Roll Autograph Party and concert. The event is free and open to the public and begins at 4:00 p.m.
Bob and Tom of "Q95" (WFBQ-FM, Indianapolis) and Bob Jenkins, voice of the IMS Radio Network, will introduce the drivers competing for racing's richest prize -- starting spots in the 81st running of the Indianapolis 500 on May 25. After their introductions, drivers will meet fans, sign autographs and participate in photo opportunities in the tents surrounding Monument Circle. In addition to music and autographs, 500 custom event T-shirts will be given away to the first 500 fans at the autograph session. Special musical guest Henry Lee Summer will debut his new single "Start Me Up" available on the Indy Racing League CD "To The Extreme". Some of the other bands on the CD include Gin Blossoms, Jimi Hendrix, The Why Store, and The Speed Tones, who will be performing live on the Circle with Henry Lee Summer during the Race Rock 'N Roll Autograph Party.
Indianapolis 500 drivers, team owners and team members will attend the party, including Tony Stewart, who will be going for his third consecutive IRL pole position on May 10, and Roberto Guerrero, who is anticipating his 13th run in the Indianapolis 500. Meet rookies Kenny Brack, the Swedish dynamo in the Galles Racing entry, and Indiana's own racing dentist, Dr. Jack Miller. Lyn St. James, 1992 Rookie of the Year, will also be available for autographs as well as a host of other Speedway veterans and rookies. The IRL Race Rock 'N Roll Autograph Party celebrates the opening of the track on May 3. Rookie Orientation activities are open to the public and take place on May 3-5. The "500" veterans take to the track on May 6 with PPG Pole Qualifying on May 10.
