Indianapolis IN (May 13, 1998) - Heavy rain on Tuesday night provided drivers with a green track this morning. Most everyone reported a lack of grip until this afternoon when more rubber was put down on the track. Jimmy Kite, who had a tight race car yesterday afternoon said the car was loose this morning with no changes having been done to the car. "I awoke to a different racecar this morning" Kite said.

Greg Ray continued to post fast times today. The Plano, Texas native may not be able to continue practicing though. The team has one car and two engines. Without a sponsor Ray may have to limit his amount of track time to conserve resources for the race.

Billy Boat set first and third fastest times today. Boat's fastest lap was 221.517. Scott Sharp was second fastest today at 220.751 mph.

There were no incidents in today's seven hour practice session, except for a bird in the short chute after turn one. When the yellow was shown for debris on the racing line, safety crews reported the debris as a bird in four parts. It was determined that a parts truck would not be dispatched to the scene and green conditions resumed quickly thereafter.

Team Pelfrey is expected to announce a replacement driver for Danny Ongais who suffered a slight concussion on Monday. John Paul Jr. has been considering taking the ride. Team Pelfrey has scheduled a press conference at 10:00 a.m. Thursday.
