Scheckter turns laps in cold, rainy practice day at Indy.
Tomas Scheckter was the only Red Bull Cheever Racing driver on track at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway today, where temperatures dropped to the low 50s and rain showers closed the track early.
Concentrating on full-tank testing, Scheckter turned 33 laps in the abbreviated practice session. Max Papis and Eddie Cheever Jr. observed practice from the pit lane.
Tomas Scheckter on Practice:
"Today was good. I had my first real race run. Although the weather was miserable today, we managed to gather some good data. It's hard to say what the weather will be like on race day, so we have to be prepared for all conditions."
Max Papis on Practice:
"It was very interesting to see Tomas running. Since I have been here I have run everyday, so it was very good to watch him. Now that it is raining, I will go to the gym!"
Eddie Cheever Takes Break from Track, Shows Support for Brian's Wish Eddie Cheever Jr. took a break from practice today to visit his friend Brian Hall at St. Vincent Hospice in Indianapolis. Brian has Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. Brian is the person behind the program "Brian's Wish" to help raise awareness of his disease and raise money for ALS research.
"I went to visit my friend Brian today, who has been adopted, so to speak, by the Indy Racing League community. Everyone in the IRL garage area seems to know something about Brian's wish to help teach people about Lou Gehrig's disease. When I walked in his room it was great to see photos, hats, shirts from every racing team I know. It was nice to see that so many people have embraced his cause. Brian is a courageous and strong person, who I admire very much. I look forward to visiting him again before race day. He was very appreciative of all the emails, and other items he received. More importantly, he appreciates all the effort that people have given to his cause. It's days like this that make me happy to be a part of this community."
