IRL: Indy 500: Cheever Racing day three report

Indianapolis Practice Report ...

Indianapolis Practice Report #1

With the sun shining brightly on a warm Indiana day, both Red Bull Cheever Racing drivers took the track today for the first day of open practice at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. During the course of practice, 39 cars took the track.

No stranger to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Alex Barron turned 52 laps with a top speed of 220.016 mph on his first day of practice, which ranked 20th among 27 drivers on the track.

"We ran through quite a few things with the cars to try to get more speed, and it didn't work like we wanted it to. We need to rethink what we're doing tonight so we can come up with more speed for tomorrow," Barron said.

Patrick Carpentier resumed familiarizing himself with the track after turning 111 laps on Sunday's rookie orientation practice. He turned 75 laps today with a top speed of 219.693 mph, ranking him 21st on the driver speed chart.

"It was a difficult day. The car is very comfortable, but it's slow. We need to find out what it is, and we have a few days, so we'll keep working hard to find it. The team is all in this together, and we're going to pull it through," Carpentier said.

Both Barron and Carpentier will return to the track to find more speed on Wednesday for the second day of open practice at the speedway.
