Red Bull Cheever continues to make progress in practice at Indy
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (May 6, 2003) -- On a quick day of practice at the Indianapolis 500, rookie Buddy Rice was able to draft another car and turn in the 15th fastest lap at 39.4272 seconds, 228.2690 mph. He logged 77 laps in the No. 52T Red Bull Cheever Racing Dallara/Chevrolet/Firestone.
"If you look at the times we made a lot of progress, but like a lot of other people we had some help with our quick times," Rice said. "We definitely made some headway. We're happy with the way things are going right now. This place is so big. The way the track changes, and the weather changes creates a lot of variables. Every little adjustment makes a big change. We've just got to stay on top of things and work on it. We now have two cars that run pretty close, which is really good for us. It allows us to work back and forth with changes and get ready for the end of the month."
Pole qualifying for the 87th running of the Indianapolis 500 is scheduled for May 10, with the race set for May 25. The race will be televised live on ABC and by the Indy Racing Radio Network. Live timing and scoring of all on-track activity can be found on www.indyracing.com.
