Red Bull Cheever Racing gears up for qualifying

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (May 7, 2003) -- With only two days of practice remaining before Pole Day, and a questionable weather forecast, Red Bull Cheever Racing is gearing up for qualifying for Buddy Rice's first Indianapolis 500. Rice completed 81 laps in practice today and turned the 18th fastest lap at 39.6887 seconds, 226.7650 mph. Practice was interrupted for one hour and 43 minutes today because of rain.

"Our track time coincided with the weather today so it worked out well for us here at Red Bull Cheever Racing," Rice said. "I am actually shocked the weather is holding off the way it is. We're getting close to pole day so we are just working hard. I think we've got through most of our work list right now. We've just got to hone in on what we are going to do, and work on our qualifying strategy. My engineer Kelly Loewen and I are both rookies here at the Speedway. We are working closely with Eddie (Cheever) on qualifying strategy since it is so different here at Indy."

Pole qualifying for the 87th running of the Indianapolis 500 is scheduled for May 10, with the race set for May 25. The race will be televised live on ABC and by the Indy Racing Radio Network. Live timing and scoring of all on-track activity can be found on www.indyracing.com.
