INDIANAPOLIS, May 18, 1998 - Canon U.S.A., Inc. and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Corporation reached an agreement today to name Canon as the official camera of the Indianapolis 500 and the Pep Boys Indy Racing League.

Canon photography products in 35mm, APS and digital still formats were designated with official status. The company will supply equipment to the photography staff of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Pep Boys IRL. The winner of the Indianapolis 500 and every other Pep Boys IRL race will receive a high-tech camera and binoculars from Canon, and the company will present a $5,000 contingency award to the Indianapolis 500 winner.

"Its an honor to be associated with a company as prestigious as Canon, and our photographers are enthusiastic users of Canon equipment," said John Newcomb, Speedway vice president of sales & marketing.

The 82nd Indianapolis 500, the most prestigious auto race in the world, is scheduled for May 24. The 11-event 1998 Pep Boys IRL schedule started Jan. 24 at Orlando, Fla., and ends Oct. 11 at Las Vegas. Other races in the world's premier open-wheel, oval-track series take place in Phoenix, Fort Worth, Texas (two races), Loudon, N.H., Dover, Del., Charlotte, N.C., Colorado Springs and Atlanta.

We are proud to be invited to continue with that service.

This high-resolution digital camera features outstanding image quality, rapid shooting rate and a wide range of professional features demanded by professional photographers. It's perfect for either print or electronic journalism."
