IRL: Indy 500: Billy Boat practice day five notes

Day ...

Day #5 of practice yields gains for CURB/Agajanian/Boat team.

With another practice day delayed by rain, time is running out for teams to get their cars ready for pole day qualifying. Although the racecar isn't exactly where the CURB/Agajanian/Boat Indy Racing team would like it, it's a step closer.

Billy Boat says, "Even though we were able to make some gains with the CURB Records car, we're still not exactly where we'd like to be. If we could find another 1 or 2 miles an hour, I'd feel a lot better. It's hard to tell where everybody's speed actually lies with a lot of cars on the track but we know that we still need a little bit of speed."

Boat ran a total of 61 laps, with a fast time of 225.316 mph in 39.9439 seconds. The #98 was one of only 25 cars to reach at least the 225 mph mark.

The fastest of the day was Rookie Tony Kanaan in the Hollywood Mo Nunn Racing #17. He completed his lap in 39.2152 seconds at a speed of 229.503 mph. He was one of six drivers to surpass 228 mph.

The CURB/Agajanian/Boat team has one more full day of practice; along with a few hours on Saturday morning before qualifying officially begins. However, with the weather as unpredictable as it has been, the crew is under a lot of pressure to quickly make changes and get in as many practice laps as possible. So, says Boat, "We'll go back and if we can find just a little bit more [speed], we'll put it in full qualifying trim tomorrow and see what it'll do."

Practice is scheduled from 11:00am -- 6:00pm tomorrow, Friday, May 10.
