Tribute Event for Arie's Final 500 a Star Studded Event For a Worthy Cause
Indianapolis, IN: Treadway Racing's second annual Sullivan's Steakhouse benefit for The Villages proved highly successful last evening as many of the Pep Boys Indy Racing League stars came out to support one of Indiana's best non-profit organizations. The event doubled in size and donation as proceeds topped the $30,000.00 mark.
As a tribute to Arie's Final 500, many Indy Racing League drivers as well as a few non-racing celebrities turned out to honor the two-time Indianapolis 500 winner as he hangs up his open-wheel driving shoes. Eddie Cheever, Scott Goodyear and Dave Calabro 'roasted' Luyendyk in front of a crowd of 350, and all raised their glass in a toast to the open wheel champion.
Among the other celebrity guests were Tony George, founder of the Pep Boys Indy Racing League; Jason Belzer from the Indianapolis Colts, the majority of country star Shania Twain's band; and a prestigious list of driving stars including, Sam Schmidt, Scott Sharp, Roberto Guerrero, Robbie Buhl, Stan Wattles, Robby McGehee, and Mike Borkowski.
Sharon Pierce, President & CEO of The Villages was pleased with the generosity throughout the evening: "Whether it's an abandoned 8-month old infant awaiting a heart transplant or an 18-year old needing a guide as she moves toward an independent life -more dreams will come true and more futures will be brighter because of the generosity displayed at last night's event. We are so thankful to Sullivan's Steakhouse, Arie Luyendyk, the entire Treadway Racing team and all of the people who came out and kicked off their Indy 500 celebrations with us last night! The best news is that the winners are the most vulnerable kids and families in Indiana!"
According to Arie Luyendyk, "I was really pleased that so many people would turn out to salute my 'Final 500' and was glad that this event would benefit such a worthy cause. I have four children of my own, and I believe that any organization that devotes itself to child welfare is extremely important."
In addition, Treadway Racing was also proud to support such a worthy cause, while honoring a longstanding champion and a true friend to the team. "Arie, Fred and the entire Treadway Racing team have a true commitment to the community and the welfare of our children," stated Treadway Racing Vice President Scott Cronk. "We're proud to headline this event with Sullivan's Steakhouse and appreciate the generosity from all the drivers and people who came out to support The Villages."
Other funding for the Villages through this event is still expected from month long promotional activities fulfilled by team sponsors Sprint PCS, Coca-Cola and Meijer stores. Total donation figures are expected to exceed $35,000.00
