Klein Tools/Jim Beam Driver Dan Wheldon Starts 2nd at Indy
Earns Front Row Starting Spot for 88th Indianapolis 500

SPEEDWAY, Ind. (May 15, 2004) - Klein Tools/Jim Beam driver Dan Wheldon continued his string of good qualifying performances, earning the second starting position and a spot in the front row for the 88th running of the Indianapolis 500. Wheldon averaged 221.524 miles per hour over the 10-mile qualification run to earn his third consecutive front row start.

The 2003 Indy Racing League® IndyCar® Series Rookie-of-the-Year was the fifth car to post a time in today's qualifying session and one of only two drivers to post four consecutive laps faster than 221 miles per hour.

Buddy Rice, driving with Honda power, earned the pole position today with a four-lap average speed of 222.024 miles per hour, leading a Honda sweep of the first seven positions on the grid. Wheldon was second and his Andretti Green teammate Dario Franchitti joins him in the front row, starting third. Bruno Junqueira was fourth fastest and another of Wheldon's AGR teammates, Tony Kanaan, was fifth.

Dan Wheldon, Driver, #26 Klein Tools/Jim Beam Dallara/Honda/Firestone

"It was difficult out there. I lifted going through Turn 1 on my first two laps, but the Klein Tools/Jim Beam car was very strong and we're happy with our starting position. I'm glad Bryan (Herta) is okay, that is a shame for him because he was a contender for the pole, too. We had really good power from our Honda with the difficult conditions today. It was perfect."

Tony Cotman, Team Manager, #26 Klein Tools/Jim Beam Dallara/Honda/Firestone

"I think it was a heck of a job. I'm very proud of Dan and the whole team. We can only get one spot better, so we're saving that for race day. I think everybody at Andretti Green should be extremely happy because we've got two cars on the front row."
