Robbie Gordon Practices on Bump Day
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (May 18, 2003) -- Robby Gordon continued to prepare for the Indy 500 today, putting the #27 Archipelago/Motorola Dallara/Honda/Firestone through the paces at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Gordon ran 37 laps in race trim posting a fastest speed of 223.595 miles per hour (40.2514 seconds).
After being rained out yesterday, Gordon and the Archipelago/Motorola team concentrated on the car's race setup. Gordon ran both full and half-tank runs to test how the car will react during the 500 mile race on Sunday, May 25.
Nine cars qualified during today's Bump Day qualifications, filling out the 33 car field for the 87th running of the Indy 500. Gordon will start on the outside of the front row right next to his teammate Tony Kanaan. Gordon's other teammates Dan Wheldon and Michael Andretti will start fifth and 13 respectively.
The Indianapolis 500 is slated to go green at 12 p.m. EDT and will air live on ABC Sports on May 25.

"It was kind of a bummer having to come out here today because we anticipated doing this yesterday. We weren't able to run because of weather so I flew to Charlotte yesterday afternoon for the Winston Open and then flew back to Indy today. We did some full tank runs, some half tank runs, some long runs and we ran with Gil de Ferran for awhile. I think it is going to be an exciting race, the Archipelago/Motorola car has been running well."
