VISION RACING COMPLETES FIRST PRACTICES OF SEASON IN PREPARATION FOR TOYOTA INDY 300
HOMESTEAD, Fla. -- The first practice sessions of the Indy Racing League IndyCar Series 2006 season proved to be an improvement from last season for Vision Racing. Preparing for Sunday's Toyota Indy 300 at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Vision Racing drivers Tomas Scheckter and Ed Carpenter got up to speed quickly and completed a solid day of practice. Recording a total 132 laps between both cars Scheckter was 9th fastest overall on the day in the #2 Dallara/Honda/Firestone and Carpenter was 11th quick in the #20 Dallara/Honda/Firestone. A total of 20 IndyCars are competing this weekend.
Drivers and crew are cautiously optimistic about improving for practice and qualifying tomorrow as both cars struggled at times with handling and set up today. Saturday begins with another practice session from 10:30-11:30 a.m. (EST) and qualifying for the season-opener Toyota Indy 300 begins at 2:45 p.m. (EST).
Tomas Scheckter -- #2 Dallara/Honda/Firestone
On practice sessions:
"I think overall it went well. The first session for me was difficult as we had an electrical problem, but the guys did a good job of getting it back out there and we were able to work on some good race set ups. It seems to be very good."
Ed Carpenter -- #20 Dallara/Honda/Firestone
On first practice session:
"I thought it went pretty smooth. It was only a 30 minute session so we couldn't do as much, but we were able to start off where we left the last test. We were able to work on a little bit of race stuff so that was good. The conditions are a little different than in the test earlier in the month so we've had to adjust for that, but I'm happy with where we are right now."
On second practice session:
"This morning we had a really good session and this afternoon we started off struggling, but we came back and saw something that was causing us some problems. Unfortunately this second session wasn't as good as the first for me, but Tomas (Scheckter) had a really good session and that's the benefit of having a two car team: now we know where we stand for tomorrow.
