Yasukawa ready for IRL IndyCar Series debut.
The 2003 IndyCar Series will get underway this weekend, marking the first appearance of American driving talent Roger Yasukawa and Super Aguri Fernandez Racing in the IRL field.
Yasukawa, 25, of Los Angeles, is fresh off an impressive season in Atlantic competition where, in only nine starts, he visited the podium three times and added a win (Milwaukee) to his tally of six top-10 finishes. A graduate of the Barber Dodge Pro Series and former Co-Rookie of the Year, Yasukawa has posted top-10 times during IRL pre-season open testing.
The formation of Super Aguri Fernandez Racing was announced in December by Fernandez Racing, ex-Formula One driver Aguri Suzuki and the Super Aguri Company. While new in name, the team is not lacking in experience with Managing Director Tom Anderson at the helm, and noted Race Engineer John Dick and veteran Chief Mechanic Steve Ragan onboard.
Roger Yasukawa, Driver - #55 Panasonic ARTA Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
"I feel very comfortable going into the first race, and I want to thank the team for doing a lot of testing. I think I am well prepared but, having said that, the challenge is a lot bigger than what I have been through at this point in my career. The main thing is to stay focused, not make any mistakes and do the job I can do. We have been running quite well during testing and, if we don't make any mistakes, I think we can be in the top 10. The most important thing is to finish the race."
