Meira Finishes 16th in Panther Debut at Miami Homestead Speedway

IndyCar Series Family Mourns Loss of Rookie Paul Dana

HOMESTEAD, Fla. -- Panther Racing would like to send its thoughts & prayers to the family and friends of IndyCar Series rookie Paul Dana -- and the entire Rahal-Letterman Racing team - on what is a very sad day for the entire motorsports community.

Panther Racing and Vitor Meira's run for the 2006 IndyCar Series Championship was cut short on Sunday during the Toyota Indy 300 at Homestead Miami Speedway. Meira, who qualified 19th for the event, encountered an unspecified problem on just the ninth lap of the race. The team finished 16th in the No. 4 EcoNova Panther Honda.

The IndyCar Series travels to The Streets of St. Petersburg for what will be the season's first road-course event next weekend. Vitor finished fifth at St. Pete last season and Panther Racing's No. 2 car led laps during the event. The new combo now hopes to bounce back from a short race this weekend a further north in Florida.

Vitor Meira Quote:

"The problem just happened, so the guys are trying to figure out what's going on right now. We're not sure if it's on the engine side, electrical or something else. I could just feel something that wasn't right and shut it off to prevent any damage and I didn't want to cause a mess on the track. I know that we're going to be fine; Panther is the best, Honda is the best and we've got the people in place."
