Panther Drivers Ready for Season to Start
HOMESTEAD, Fla. -- Panther Racing returns to the site of its best finish in 2004, when Tomas Scheckter brought home a 5th-place result. With the addition of IndyCar Series rookie Tomas Enge, the full commitment of Chevrolet and sponsorship from ROCKSTAR Energy Drink, the Panther Pack has set its sights much higher for 2005. Scheckter returns to the #4 Pennzoil Panther Chevrolet and Enge will pilot the brand new #2 ROCKSTAR Panther Chevy.
Panther has recorded two victories at Homestead, during both championship seasons in 2001 and 2001 with Sam Hornish, Jr. behind the wheel. The team qualified strong a season ago, when Scheckter started 3rd and then-rookie Mark Taylor qualified in 6th. Scheckter led 22 laps during the race last season.
Enge will be making his first start at Homestead, after competing in the final two races of the 2004 season with Patrick Racing. He tested on both the road course and oval during the Miami Open Test in January, where he was quick on both circuits. Despite starting two races last season, he enters 2005 as an IndyCar Series rookie.
"It's time to go racing again. We had a good offseason together, for sure, but I'm ready to get back into a racecar and show what this team is capable of. Chevrolet proved to us during the offseason that they're going to be even more powerful than last season, and returning to Panther again this year will be great for everybody. I'm really looking forward to getting some laps in tomorrow in the Pennzoil car."
"The season finally starts at last! I am -- probably as everyone- eager to learn how things stand. The tests gave some indication but there are always many details that affect the lap time, so it is the first racing weekend that shows the true picture. It is important for me that the season starts on the track where I have had an opportunity to test with the team. I had a good feeling here in testing, which is encouraging. I know that all the people at Panther, Chevrolet and ROCKSTAR have been working flat out to get the best possible result and we will do our best on the track."
