20th Anniversary Grand Prix Of Miami - Homestead-Miami Speedway
February 28-March 2, 2002

Race Distance: 300 miles (200 laps on the 1.5-mile oval).

Firehawks Supplied: 8 sets per car. Produced at the Bridgestone/Firestone Technical Center in Akron, Ohio. Same compound/construction combination as used in the 2001 IRL competition at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

2001 Firestone Results: Jeff Ward won pole, Sam Hornish Jr. won race.

The Firestone Racing program returns to sunny, southern Florida for the opening round of the 2002 Indy Racing League season. As competitors prepare their machines for the 20th Anniversary Grand Prix of Miami, each will have a proven benchmark to set up his car as the Firestone Firehawks for this event feature the same compound/construction combination that performed so strongly at the Homestead-Miami Speedway last year.

Quote from Bridgestone/Firestone Motorsports Executive Director Al Speyer: "Early in the season, with so many teams still exploring new equipment and personnel, we felt it was important to provide a tire with known qualities. We'll be introducing new compounds and constructions throughout the year as teams adjust to changes and the series goes to new venues. We expect tire wear to be highest during Thursday practice sessions, as teams are exploring the best set-ups. That will level out Friday, and by Saturday's race, most teams should have optimum wear performance from their tires. The Firestone Racing program engineers will be working closely with all teams throughout the weekend, providing data and assistance to make sure that happens. We're excited about being back at this track. It's unique banking and corners provide a challenge to every team and driver, and very little is predictable. Combine that with the race being the IRL season opener, and you have all the right ingredients for one incredible show."

Firestone Presence: The Firestone Racing program is bringing a team of 30 professionals to handle various responsibilities and assignments at this weekend's IRL competition. More than 400 store and dealer representatives from the greater Miami-Homestead area will also be attending, cheering on their Firestone-equipped drivers.
