HOMESTEAD, Fl. (February 29, 2004)---Scott Sharp, driver of the No. 8 Delphi entry, rolled off in 17th position for the season opening Toyota Indy 300. After a very fast-paced, exciting race he was able to bring the Delphi car home in ninth place. Sharp had a close call during the race when on lap 56 another car made contact with his left side pod, leaving a tire mark but no serious damage. Sharp was able to gather the car back up and continue. Alternative pit strategy moved Sharp as high as second place but once the final round of pit stops came, Sharp settled back into ninth place which is where he finished. The Kelley Racing team will now return to Indianapolis to begin preparations for their next event to be held at Phoenix International Raceway on March 21.

Fast Facts and Quote
"The Delphi guys did a great job today. We took a bit of a gamble on our pit strategy because we felt we didn't have anything to lose and it almost paid off for us. The guys gave me a really good handling car but we just didn't have the speed we needed when we ran alone. We needed the draft and we were good in the draft. We had to pit too early and we ended up out running on our own which was the kiss of death. It was a gamble and we've tried those before and ended up winning races. So although ninth place isn't perfect, we were happy to bring the car home and now we're on to Phoenix."
