Rice qualifies 16th at Homestead.

HOMESTEAD, Fla. (March 1, 2003) - On a steep learning curve with the new Dallara-Chevy-Firestone package, Red Bull Cheever Racing will start tomorrow's season opening IRL IndyCar Series race from the 16th position. Buddy Rice, who is more confident with the team's race setup, qualified 16th with a 27.5495 second, 196.011 mph lap.

"It's tough conditions with the temperature and the wind right now," said Rice. "Turns three and four are tricky. We have been concentrating a lot on our race car. We tried some things with our qualifying setup this morning and had some problems. Right now we are on a big learning curve. We are not only working on this race but also gearing up for Indy as well. We know that we have a good solid race car for tomorrow and we are going to continue to work on that. The big deal is tomorrow and we want to make sure that Red Bull Cheever Racing, Dallara and Chevy are at the front for the end of tomorrow's race."

The Toyota Indy 300 starts at 1 p.m. (EST) on Sunday, March 2 and will be televised live on ABC.

Red Bull Cheever Racing, based in Indianapolis, is the brainchild of 1998 Indy 500 champion Eddie Cheever Jr. A leader in American motorsports, the IRL IndyCar Series team is built on Cheever's experience in Formula One, sports cars and open-wheel oval racing. Corporate and technical partnerships include the world's leading energy drink Red Bull, Menards, Chevrolet, Dallara, Firestone and Menard Cheever Technologies.
