HOLLANSWORTH STEADY IN TEXAS IRL TEST

FORT WORTH-DALLAS (April 16, 1999) - Dallas' John Hollansworth Jr. overcame heavy winds and pushed his pcsave.com/Lycos Dallara/Aurora Pep Boys Indy Racing League machine to a best lap of 218.8 mph during a Thursday night test session at Texas Motor Speedway.

Hollansworth used the session to prepare for the June 12 Longhorn 500 IRL race at Texas Motor Speedway along with the May 1 Visionaire 500 at Lowe's Motor Speedway at Charlotte. Hollansworth just returned from an open test at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway where he turned a lap at 222.8 mph.

"Coming off a good week at Indy, testing here is great," said Hollansworth. "This really helps my learning curve. It's always good to be in Texas and this is the home of pcsave.com, so we were able to have some folks out.

"Our laps at speed, on a 1.5-mile oval, aren't there yet and since a third of the IRL's races are on 1.5-mile tracks, we are going to change a few things on the setup. There'll be some changes to the sway bar and gearbox."

Hollansworth is a contender for the Pep Boys Indy Racing League Sprint PCS Rookie-of-the-Year Award. The leading rookie at season's end will collect $50,000.

Another highlight of the evening was John Hollansworth Sr. touring the superspeedway in a 1917 Peerless racing car he will drive in the upcoming Great American Race. Hollansworth took IRL Special Projects Manager Johnny Rutherford for a lap around the speedway.

Defending race winner Billy Boat is entered in the Longhorn 500 along with Greg Ray, 1998 Indianapolis 500 winner Eddie Cheever and 1998 Pep Boys IRL champion Kenny Brack.

Tickets for the Longhorn 500 are on sale at the Texas Motor Speedway ticket office seven days per week, through the ticket hotline at (817) 215-8500, on-line at www.texasmotorspeedway.com and through TicketMaster outlets.
