IRL: Hearn fractures ankle in Kentucky race crash

Sparta,KY: Richie Hearn's top-ten streak and perhaps 2002 Indy Racing season came to an early end after touching wheels with Gil DeFerran and then impacting the turn two wall on lap 23 in the Belterra Casino Indy 300 from the Kentucky Speedway.

Sparta,KY: Richie Hearn's top-ten streak and perhaps 2002 Indy Racing season came to an early end after touching wheels with Gil DeFerran and then impacting the turn two wall on lap 23 in the Belterra Casino Indy 300 from the Kentucky Speedway. Hearn fractured his right ankle in the impact. He was driven to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis where he was scheduled to have surgery last evening.

Hearn finished 24th in the race driving the #20 BG Products Sam Schmidt Motorsports Racing Special. Coming into the race, Hearn had six top-tens in eight races with Sam Schmidt Motorsports and had challenged for the lead in each of the last two events late in the race. The Sam Schmidt Motorsports team remains 9th in the overall points standings.
