Hampton, GA - Shigeaki Hattori and the #55 EPSON qualified 5th for tomorrow's zMAX 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway (AMS) and today's day long journey to this impressive qualifying position is easier said then done.
Less than two weeks ago, Hattori and Vertex/Cunningham Racing decided to open new channels for competition and made two significant changes to the racing program. The #55 EPSON changed to a Dallara chassis from a G-Force and well-renowned Indy car engineer Thomas Knapp joined Vertex/Cunningham Racing as Team President and Track Engineer.
"We know we made a right decision bringing Dallara and Knapp on board," said Hattori. "What we didn't know was how fast the team, the new car and Knapp would come together. It's super to see wonderful teamwork so early and have great results as a result of the great synergy among everybody."
Hattori will start tomorrow's zMAX 500 inside row 3.
"I've got some unfinished business here," said Hattori. "I finished 9th at AMS last year and I know with my car and my great team, we can finish 1st. You never can predict what will happen in a race, but I trust the #55 EPSON will repeat its great results from today and the Vertex/Cunningham pack will continue to be a top-notch team."
