INDIANAPOLIS, Friday, June 15, 2001 - Indy Racing Northern Light Series driver Davey Hamilton underwent successful surgery June 14 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis to continue to repair severe injuries to his legs and feet suffered in a crash at Texas Motor Speedway.

Hamilton, from Eagle, Idaho, remains in stable condition. He is under the care of a team of specialist physicians led by orthopedic surgeon Dr. Kevin Scheid.

The surgery, which ended late in the evening, consisted of a muscle transfer from Hamilton's back to his right foot, Scheid said. Hamilton will undergo more surgery on his left foot June 16, including muscle transfer and bone repair, Scheid said.

After these procedures are complete, Hamilton will recuperate for approximately one week before additional surgery is performed, Scheid said.

Hamilton was injured on Lap 73 of the Casino Magic 500 on June 9. He sustained injuries after the car hit the fence exiting Turn 2 in the 200-lap event.
