TEAM SABCO CONCLUDES "COMING OUT" PARTY AT SPEEDWAY
INDIANAPOLIS, Wednesday, March 19, 1997 -- The debut was a success as Team Sabco's Indy Racing League group spent the past three days getting acquainted with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Driver Robby Gordon headlined the team's Indy introduction, motoring just over 300 miles in two days of track activity - Mother Nature's Tuesday temper tantrum abbreviated the affair. Gordon's unofficial record of 215 mile an hour lap Wednesday as Team Sabco used the sessions to learn the car, the track and each other =97 the group has been together only a few weeks.
Gordon will work overtime Memorial Day Weekend as he will be behind the wheel of Team Sabco's entries in both the Indy Racing League's Indianapolis 500 and the NASCAR Winston Cup Series' Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway =97 May 25th.
QUOTES: ROBBY GORDON: "We're very happy hitting 215, especially since this is our first time here and we've only been together a short time. We were tinkering today and next week we'll come back and massage some more. We've got a good group and everything is coming together."
DAVE FORBES (Team Sabco Crew Chief): "This was pretty much a how-do-you-do run for us. We wanted the team to get to know each other and get comfortable working together. Robby got the handling down and everything went smoothly. It was a successful outing."
FELIX SABATES (Team Sabco Owner): "This was just awesome today. Owning a car in the Indy 500 is what you dream and I'm turning it into reality. The Indy 500 is like the Kentucky Derby - there's only one Derby and only one 500. May 25th is going to be a busy day. I've got Robby running Indy and then straight to NASCAR's Charlotte event. If we win Indy, Robby will have to drink that milk in a hurry!"
