San Paulo, Brazil: Felipe Giaffone turned a brilliant performance is hishome country of Brazil to win the Mil KM de Brasilia endurance race last Saturday evening. Giaffone and co-pilots Flavio de Andrade and Ruyter Pacheco started second and took the lead after Giaffone passed the famed Brazilian Formula One driver Nelson Piquet. The 183-lap rain plagued race ended near midnight after 7 hours and 13 minutes and saw twenty cars take the green flag.

"It was a great race and it is always fun for me to get in endurance races," said Giaffone. "I just love to race. It is especially fun to race with Flavio and Ruyter in my home country of Brazil. This is a special win for me. I hope I can keep up the good luck when I return to the states for my race in Atlanta and then for the INDY 500".

Giaffone returned to the states yesterday to prepare for the Atlanta 500 Classic on April 28. Giaffone is currently third in the season points championship and is leading the rookie of the year points standings after 2 of the 13 IRL races in 2001. The Atlanta 500 Classic can be seen at 7 p.m. EDT on ESPN2.
