Mechanical Problems Force Early Retirement

St. Louis: A mechanical failure forced Felipe Giaffone into the pits on lap 4 while running 4th and then to his eventual retirement after completing only 44 laps in the inaugural Gateway INDY 250. He finished 20th in the #21 Hollywood entry for Treadway-Hubbard Racing. Ironically, after experiencing his worst finish of the season, he did statistically lock up the rookie of the year points race.

"It's a shame because I had a car that could win this race," said Giaffone. "We ran strong on Saturday, but didn^Òt get to qualify because of the rain so we started 6th by entrant points. The car was really hooked up and I knew we had a car to win this race. I feel bad for the guys and Hollywood. I really don^Òt know what else to say. I would rather run up front and break than finish running mid-pack all day."

Giaffone is now 5th in overall driver points. The next race is the Delphi INDY 300 from the Chicagoland Speedway on Sunday September 2nd.
