MADISON, Ill., Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2001 - Event happenings leading up to and during the Gateway Indy 250 on Aug. 24-26 at Gateway International Raceway:

SCHEDULE:

The Gateway Indy 250 starts at 2 p.m. (CDT) Aug. 26. MBNA Pole Qualifying starts at noon Aug. 25.

Practice sessions start at 10:45 a.m. (two groups) and 3:45 p.m. (two groups) Aug. 24 and 9 a.m. (two groups) and 4:30 p.m. (all cars) Aug. 25.

ON THE AIR:

The Gateway Indy 250 will be televised live on ESPN at 3 p.m (EDT) Aug.. 26. "Indy Racing 2Day" will be televised live at 11 a.m. Aug 26 on . ESPN2 .

MBNA Pole Qualifying will be broadcast on ESPN2 at midnight (EDT) Aug. 25.

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Radio Network will broadcast a 30-minute pre-race show at 2:30 p.m. (EDT) Aug. 26, followed by the live race broadcast at 3 p.m. There will be a qualifying wrap-up show at 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 25.

The area IMS Radio Network affiliates are KFNS-AM 1590 and KFNS-FM 100.7, St. Louis. The IMS Radio Network race broadcast also will be available live on the Internet at www.indyracing.com as part of a partnership between Indy Racing Online and Yahoo!/broadcast.com, the world's leading Web broadcast site.

ON THE WEB: Live enhanced timing and scoring reports from the Gateway Indy 250 practice, MBNA Pole Qualifying and the race will be available on the Internet at www.indyracing.com <http://www.indyracing.com>. Enhanced live timing and scoring reports on the race also will be available through Race Live at www.sportsline.com <http://www.sportsline.com>. Feature stories, practice, race and qualifying reports, and driver quotes and notes will be posted on the site daily. NICE DEAL:

A unique "Track Pack" is being offered for the Gateway Indy 250 at Gateway International Raceway. For $99, fans get four race tickets; four pit passes good when there is no action on the track, four hats and a race program. The "Track Pack" is available by calling (866) 35-SPEED.

HE'S A LEGEND:

Four-time Indianapolis 500 winner Al Unser will serve as grand marshal of the Gateway Indy 250.

Unser, who is a driver coach for the Indy Racing League, retired from racing in 1994 with 39 career Indy-style victories, including wins at Indianapolis in 1970, 1971, 1978 and 1987. He was the 1970 USAC National Champion and the 1983 and 1985 CART champion. In 1978, Unser became the only man to win racing's "triple crown" by winning 500-mile races at Indianapolis, Ontario, Calif., and Pocono, Pa.

WE'RE FLYING NOW:

Four F-16 fighter jets from the New Mexico Air Guard will perform a flyover before the start of the Gateway Indy 250. Grand Marshal Al Unser is from New Mexico.

McGEHEE MEETS HIS FANS:

1999 Indianapolis 500 Rookie of the Year Robby McGehee, a lifelong resident of St. Louis, will sign autographs from 5:30-7 p.m. Aug. 23 at Show-Me Restaurant in Fairview Heights, Ill.

The Kroger Indy Racing car will be on display from 5-8 p.m Show-Me Restaurant is located at 200 Lincoln Highway.

An autograph session with Indy Racing drivers will take place at approximately 5:30 p.m. Aug.25 in the garage area at Gateway International Raceway.
