Take Me Out To The Ballgame
This week, Scott Dixon and Tomas Scheckter will throw out the first pitch at the Anaheim Angels baseball game on Wednesday. The duo will be guests of the team for their game versus the Oakland Athletics.
Scott Dixon leads the Indy Racing League IndyCar Series in laps led with 678. He also leads the series with pole wins (5) and wins (3). A pole win in Fontana will tie him for the all-time season pole win record. Dixon has led a lap in 12 of the 14 races so far this year.
By The Numbers
When Dixon is running at the end of the race, his average finish is 2.8. In the 9 races that he has been running at the finish, he has scored 3 wins, 3 seconds, a fifth and 2 sixth place finishes.
Scott Dixon has qualified in the top-6 in 13 straight races. Included in that streak are 5 poles and 2 second place starts. His qualifying average over the last 13 races is a stellar 2.6.
Dixon has started on the front row in 8 of the last 12 races. A Team Target car has qualified on the front row in 7 out of the last 8 races.
Leading The Way
The season, Dixon leads the series in laps led with 678. Teammate Tomas Scheckter has led 379 laps, good enough for fourth place in that category. For the year, the team has led 1,057 laps. That is over 37% of all the laps run. The team has led a lap in 13 of the 14 races this year.
Scott Dixon has won 5 poles in the 14 IRL races this year, 1 shy of the all-time record held by Billy Boat. Both Dixon and Scheckter rank in the top-5 for pole wins in IRL history. The team is also after their 8th pole of the season this weekend. Scott Dixon won the pole in Japan, Richmond, Kansas, Nashville and Nazareth while Tomas Scheckter grabbed the top spot in Texas and Michigan.
Target House Donations Adding Up
So far this season the team has donated $49,450 to Target House and St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Since 1997 the team has donated $5,000 for each win, $1,000 for each pole and $25 for each lap led to the charity. Target House serves as a home away from home for the families of children admitted to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
Scott Dixon -- No. 9 Target Toyota
"It's exciting to head into the last two races with a real chance to win the championship. We're only 12 points back in the points race now, so everyone here at Team Target is working very hard to get us the title. We were pretty quick back at the open test in California. I've had a lot of fun this year in the IRL IndyCar Series. When I first heard about us running over here, I wasn't sure what to expect. The side-by-side racing is a lot of fun. Now, if we can win that championship, that will be the icing on the cake."
Tomas Scheckter -- No. 10 Target Toyota
"I think that we were second-fastest at the test in the west at the beginning of the year out in California. We were on the pole in Michigan also, so I'm really confident heading out there. We've had a tough season so far. We've led a bunch of laps, won a few poles and had fast cars all season. Like last week for example. We were leading the race near the end, made a pit stop, then the yellow came out and cost us a lot of track position. That kind of luck has been around all year. But when you have fast cars and great team like Team Target, I think that things will come our way. We need to close out the season strong and get us a win or two."
