PHOENIX, Arizona – Hometown favorite and 1998 Indy 500 winner Eddie Cheever, Jr. returns to Phoenix this weekend confident that an exciting new partner and enhanced equipment options will further strengthen his team's efforts to claim the 2000 Indy Racing Northern Light series title.

On Thursday, Cheever and Internet industry giant Excite@Home (Nasdaq: ATHM) announced a two-year partnership to bring the best of racing and broadband to fans worldwide. Together through the 2001 race season, the two will partner, on track and on line, to bring together the speed of racing with the speed of broadband.

"We're elated about our new partnership with Excite@Home, for two reasons," comments Cheever, who is ranked fourth overall in career Indy Racing victories with three wins. "Not only does it give us the tools to make a serious run at the championship, but it also allows us to have one-on-one relationships with race fans. The Excite@Home Indy Race Team is going to revolutionize the way motor racing is looked at and enjoyed by millions of people worldwide."

Cheever, who led 22 laps of the 1999 Phoenix event and appeared poised to claim victory until contact with Buddy Lazier brought his day to a premature end, anticipates another thrilling race on the 1-mile Arizona "bullring".

"Phoenix is one hot, fast, hard, short oval," explains Cheever. "The long radius corners force you to really lean on your right rear, and making the tires last through each stint is extremely difficult. It will be another tight, tight race for both the teams and the equipment, but I'm looking forward to a very competitive debut of the #51 Excite@Home Indy Race Car."

Cheever's championship hopes have been enhanced by the team's recent acquisition of a Dallara chassis. Team Cheever now has the ability to choose between the Dallara and the Riley & Scott on a race-by-race basis. "We have very good relationships with both manufacturers," notes Cheever. "Our goal is to have the luxury of selecting the chassis that most capitalizes on any given track."

Cheever, one of the most experienced and well-respected racers in the world due to his impressive record in both Indy Racing and Formula One competition, heads into round two of the 2000 Indy Racing Northern Light Championship fresh from an impressive run at the season opener at Walt Disney World Speedway. The Orlando resident led eight laps en route to a third place finish and is currently ranked third overall in Indy Racing standings with 35 points.

The MCI WorldCom Indy 200 will be televised live on ABC Sports at 4pm (EST). Qualifying will be televised on ESPN2 at 5:30pm (EST) on Saturday, March 18th.

Primary Sponsorship of the #51 Indy Car comes from Excite@Home. The company is based in Redwood City, California, at the heart of Silicon Valley. Associate Sponsors of Team Cheever include Indy Promotional Products, netoy.com, Menards, Ceramiche Ragno, Infiniti, Firestone, Bosch and Pennzoil.
