INFINITI INDY INSIDER *Trackside Report, MBNA Mid-Atlantic 200, Dover Downs International Speedway* Race -- Sunday, Aug. 1, 1999

The Infiniti Indy V8 engine proved to be strong on the "Monster Mile," with Eddie Cheever Jr. driving from 19th to eighth in the first 45 laps of the 200-lap race. While Cheever looked like he was on his way to a promising finish, his day ended early because of an accident.

On lap 56, Cheever was attempting to pass Robby Unser and Scott Harrington for sixth position when contact from the car behind him, John Hollansworth, propelled him into the wall at turn two. The No. 51 The Children's Beverage Group/Team Cheever Infiniti ended up 21st in the MBNA Mid-Atlantic 200 at Dover Downs International Speedway. Cheever currently stands sixth in the driver's championship.

The battle for the Pep Boys Indy Racing League Championship is down to three races: the Colorado 200 at Pikes Peak International Raceway on Sunday, Aug. 29; the lasvegas.com 500 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Sunday, Sept. 26; and the Lone Star 500 at Texas Motor Speedway on Sunday, Oct. 17.

Quotes:

Eddie Cheever Jr., No. 51 The Children's Beverage Group/Team Cheever Infiniti/Dallara/Goodyear (Qualified 19th, Finished 21st): "It's very disappointing. We had a great car this weekend. We were fast all weekend long, and though we had a few problems in qualifying, we were well on our way through the grid and ready to settle down to win this race. Dover is an impossible place to pass. They can really shut you down out there. I thought I had the run on Robby's outside, but it got tight and I got hit me from behind. It's a pity."
