The field for this afternoon's Menards A.J. Foyt Indy 225 has been reduced to 21, as Scott Dixon, the 2003 Indy Racing League IndyCar Series champion has not been cleared to drive today.

Dixon had two accidents yesterday. The first occurred in the morning practice session when the Kiwi spun on his third lap exiting Turn 2 and contacted the wall. He was examined and released by the IRL's medical staff.

Returning to his spare #1 Team Target Panoz G Force/Toyota for single car qualifying in the early afternoon, Dixon turned his first lap - of two - of The Milwaukee Mile with a speed good enough to place him eighth on the grid at that point. On his second lap, however, Dixon spun between Turns 3 and 4 and made two separate contacts with the wall.

Although exiting the car himself, Dixon was taken to the track medical center once again, as per IRL rules, for examination by medical director Dr. Henry Bock. Complaining of soreness to his right knee, left ankle and right wrist (which he injured at Twin Ring Motegi in 2003 and this year), Dixon was taken to Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital for precautionary exams.

While Dixon did not sustain any fractures to the ankle or knee, the soreness to his left ankle is being qualified as a "left ankle sprain." X- rays revealed a small bone chip to the right thumb and Dixon expects examination by Dr. Terry Trammell once he returns to Indianapolis for further assessment.

Team Target will forego any possible further damage to driver Dixon and has only one car, the #10 Team Target Panoz G Force/Toyota of Darren Manning entered in this afternoon's race #9 in a 16-event campaign.
