FORT WORTH-DALLAS (Sept. 26, 2000) - Mark Dismore put an exclamation point on his Indy Racing career a year ago with this win in Texas in the season-ending race. He is hoping for a repeat performance in the 2000 season-ending Excite 500 at Texas Motor Speedway.

Dismore's is a story of triumph over tragedy; a story of a common man with exceptional determination; a story of a love of sport and family. A terrible accident at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 1991 left him with multiple injuries, and doctors felt his racing career was over. He has proven them wrong.

After signing on with Kelley Racing, Dismore quickly established himself as a contender by leading much of the 1998 season opener at Walt Disney World Motor Speedway. However, from there his luck would change. Accidents and engine failures haunted Dismore throughout 1998 and early 1999. Following a pole and late race crash at Dover, Dismore's engineer resigned; the '99 season seemed lost too.

After deciding to engineer the car themselves, Dismore and the #28 team set out on a mission to win at least one race in 1999. A third at Pikes Peak and a strong run early on at Las Vegas proved to Dismore and team that a win was possible, but only one opportunity remained.

Going into the final race of the 1999 season last October at Texas Motor Speedway, Dismore was 11th in points, but within striking range of a top five finish in the season-ending standings. On lap 187 of 208, patience paid off as Dismore took the lead and never looked back. Mark Dismore crossed the finish line and won the final race of the 1999 Indy Racing season to finish third overall in points. Things have not gone as well for the OnStar team in the 2000 season, but a return trip to victory lane on Oct. 15 at Texas Motor Speedway would gone a long way in helping Dismore forget all about that.

Tickets for the Excite 500 weekend are on sale now by calling the Texas Motor Speedway ticket office at (817) 215-8500 or going on line to www.texasmotorspeedway.com.
