Dana Point, CA. April 24, 2001: After an unfortunate and disappointing race in Miami two weeks ago, the Dick Simon Racing team is heading to Atlanta this week.
"My goal is definitely to race in front. We are a strong race team and need to prove that this weekend in Atlanta. I understand that we announced championship goals before Phoenix. I still believe we are a championship-caliber team this year. Our goal is to finish on the podium in order to make it into the top ten in the Indy Racing Northern Light Series point standings."
Stephan Gregoire and Dick Simon Racing will race under the lights in Atlanta for the third year in a row. Last year Stephan finished seventh there. "We have been preparing for Atlanta like never before! Our team is ready and we know that the Dallara/Oldsmobile Roush/Firestone package will be fast there even though we did not test prior to the race." This is the first time this season that Stephan will drive his Tokheim/Jack K. Elrod Co./N.A.D.A. Guides Dallara at night. "I like racing at night. I think it's fun for the public to see us race at night and it's pretty exciting for the fans."
After the Atlanta race the Dick Simon Racing team led by legendary racing icon Dick Simon will travel directly to their summer home in Indianapolis and will move into their new race shop located in Gasoline Alley.
"A few days before Opening Day, our team, which is the only team based on the West Coast, will move into a new Gasoline Alley shop in Indianapolis for the next 4 months. It's great because Dick Simon Racing is going to be in the racing capital of the world all summer in an effort to save time and energy for our crew. Most of the races after Indy, except the two races in Texas, are in the Midwest and by being located at Indy, we will be able to spend more time on the cars than on the road." announced Dick Simon before flying to Northern California where last weekend he was the special guest at Madera Speedway to promote his team and the Indy Racing League.
"We are still looking for a major sponsor for the Indy 500 and the remainder of the season but our team is one of the best IRL teams out there and we have the finest marketing packages, especially for Indy. We hope our showing in Atlanta will bring us the right leads!" said a very enthusiastic Dick Simon who also celebrated his 20th wedding anniversary with his wife Dianne on Sunday.
