De Ferran and Hornish join Formula One World Champion Michael Schumacher, NASCAR Winston Cup champion Tony Stewart and NHRA Funny Car champion John Force as nominees for the Best Driver Award at the 11th Annual ESPY Awards Presented by General Motors, which take place July 16 in Hollywood.

The Best Driver category is one of 17 categories for various sports. This is the second consecutive year that de Ferran and Hornish have been nominated in the Best Driver category. Schumacher won the award last year.
Hornish and De Ferran join a list of superstar ESPY nominees that includes Barry Bonds, Tiger Woods, Serena Williams, Annika Sorenstam, Tim Duncan, Mario Lemieux, Lisa Leslie, Rich Gannon and more.

Other nominees include NASCAR drivers Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jimmie Johnson, Matt Kenseth and Bobby Labonte, USAC short-track star J.J. Yeley, drag racer Larry Dixon and CART rookie Sebastien Bourdais.
The winner of this quarter's award will be determined by an independent vote of the 18-member of motorsports journalists and broadcasters and one vote based on the cumulative tally of fans voting at http://www.speedtv.com/features/36.
The winner of the quarterly voting will be presented a trophy and a Maurice Lacroix Swiss Watch, the official watch of the Driver of the Year, to commemorate the honor.
At the end of the year, a special, separate vote will be conducted for the 2003 Driver of the Year.
