Sharp Finishes Ninth at Chicagoland

Scott Sharp capped off the 2006 IndyCar Series season with a ninth-place finish in the PEAK Antifreeze Indy 300 this afternoon. Sharp, who qualified fifth, ran in that position throughout the majority of the 200-lap race after losing touch with the lead pack of Penske and Ganassi cars in the early stages. A Lap 151 restart resulted in a great fight at the front of the field with Sharp battling back and forth for fifth through ninth positions.

Sharp ended the season 12th in the point standings with eight top-10 results, the best being a pair of fifth-place drives at Texas and Richmond.

With their result today, Sam Hornish Jr. and Marlboro Team Penske are the 2006 IndyCar Series champions.

Scott Sharp - #8 Delphi Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
"The last 40 to 50 laps were certainly exciting. It was a great job by the Delphi Fernandez Racing team all weekend. I think we stepped up our competitiveness this weekend in the way we qualified, and we could try to hang on to the leaders whenever we got the chance. We were probably one of the next quickest cars after those top four. At the end, we were all duking it out back and forth and everybody's car was a bit edgy. I asked for more wing and maybe it loosened it up a little much because I was sort of hanging on there at the end. It was a good finish for us and a good way to end the year. It was a great job by everybody for their effort all season long."

Tom Anderson, Owner/Managing Director:
"Today was pretty much summed up by traffic, traffic, traffic. When the four leaders bunched up at the front, it gave a lot of the traffic a chance to catch up to us. At the end of the race, we fell back to ninth. It was the end of the season and a good run. The guys did a great job. We would like to thank Honda, Firestone, Delphi, Futaba, AT&T, Bryant, Tequila Patron, Sharp Copiers -- all the great sponsors and partners here at Delphi Fernandez Racing. We want to thank everyone for a great year. We look forward to a short winter and getting back to it again in '07."
