Matsuura Makes Most of Limited Track Time at Chicagoland
Kosuke Matsuura will make his second career start at Chicagoland Speedway from the12th* position on the grid after limited practice time prior to qualifying this afternoon for the Peak® Antifreeze Indy 300. Matsuura, who was fifth quickest in the first practice session, turned only two laps in the second 45-minute practice round before being a victim of contact with another car. The team was able to repair the damage to the #55 Panasonic machine in time for Matsuura to make his qualifying run, and post a time 0.1759 seconds off of pole.
Matsuura has claimed a pair of top-eight finishes in the past three events, including a 2005 season-high result of sixth two weeks ago at Infineon Raceway.
*Matsuura qualified 15th but was moved up to 12th following the disqualification of three cars due to post-qualifying technical infractions.
Kosuke Matsuura, #55 Panasonic ARTA Panoz/Honda/Firestone:
"I think this was quite a good qualifying session for us because I had a crash in the second practice session. The mechanics did a really good job to change the engine and make repairs to the whole car -- almost everything except the monocoque. I was able to make qualifying, and the handling was similar to this morning. I think we found a good setup for the race tomorrow."
