Joliet, IL (September 11, 2004)--- Qualifications are now complete for the Delphi Indy 300. Scott Sharp, driver of the No. 8 Delphi entry, was the last entry to qualify and put forth an effort that places him 13th on the starting grid for tomorrow's race. Helio Castroneves will start from the pole tomorrow after posting a speed of 214.674 mph. Sunday's race is set for a 12:30 p.m. green flag and will be televised live on ABC.
Scott Sharp, No. 8 Delphi/Dallara/Toyota/Firestone
"We're not doing handsprings over running 13th today, but given where we have been qualifying and the speed we've had over the course of the last few races I would have to say we're pleased with our qualifying effort today. So we're pretty excited about it since Delphi is sponsoring the race so we better have our best foot forward for tomorrow. What I'm most excited about is that we had a great car in the draft yesterday. I knew we would slide back a little bit on our own in qualifying but I think we definitely have more for the race than what we just showed."
*The Delphi Indy 300 will be Sharp's 96th career start, his 88th consecutive IRL IndyCar start--an IndyCar record-- and his seventh season with Kelley Racing.
* Chicago Record--In 2003 Sharp started 17th and finished 11th while in 2002, Sharp started 16th and finished 7th and in 2001 he started 3rd and finished 25th after an accident.
*Sharp is currently in 14th place in the IndyCar Series points standings with 217 points.
*Sharp's victory in April 2003 at Twin Ring Motegi, Japan was his eighth career victory.
